Ellen Adams
Princeton UniversityComparative LiteratureBorn and raised in Spokane, Washington, Ellen Adams later graduated Cum Laude from The Thacher School in Ojai, California. A bisexual young woman, she founded her high school’s Gay Straight Alliance (GSA), and worked in the Central Coast GSA Consortium, Amnesty International, and English literacy. She then went on to spend a year in the Hispanic Studies Program in University of Granada, Spain, as well as teaching English. While in Granada, she served as an active member of the city’s LGBT community center, particularly in areas of bisexual visibility. Now an undergraduate at Princeton University, Ellen studies Comparative Literature in French and Spanish, as well as Creative Writing and Urban Studies. On campus she serves as an LGBT peer educator, as well as an officer for several of the University’s LGBT organizations, including the recently formed Transgender Taskforce. Nationally, Ellen is a member of the Matthew Shepard Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council. She has extensive experience in the independent press, is a published poet in both Spanish and English, and a singer-songwriter with several original albums recorded. Her fiction has garnered awards from Princeton’s Program in Creative Writing. Paired with the creative passions of both her writing and her music, Ellen plans to pursue her commitment to social justice through community based non-profit in an urban setting.
