Alan Uphold

Development Director - West

Prior to joining Point Foundation in 2010, Alan enjoyed a vibrant career in public relations, promotions and event production that spanned more than 20 years. He has been actively involved in supporting LGBT causes and organizations for most of his adult life.

Early in his career, Alan worked for Warner Bros., Bragman Nyman Cafarelli and DDB Needham Promotions. During those years, he produced promotional campaigns related to powerhouse events such as the Super Bowl and Rose Parade and helped promote Warner Bros. movies & animated characters, Frito-Lay packaged goods and other leading consumer products. Following his experience with those marquis brands and events, he worked for ten years as Vice President of Marketing and Production for Jordan Education Media, a company that produces corporate sponsored education materials for use in classrooms across the U.S. Among his clients were some of the largest corporations in America including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Ford, Disney and Twentieth Century Fox, among others.

In 2006, Alan shifted his focus exclusively to event production. He served for nearly two years as Vice President of Operations for Causeforce, a company that produces multi-day walks, runs and bicycle rides to raise money for cancer research. With a staff of nearly 100, Alan oversaw all membership recruitment and fundraising activities for the company. In 2007, Alan amicably left Causeforce to open his own company that specialized in producing major galas and fundraisers for non-profit organizations. Uphold Events served an impressive list of diverse clients such as Dream Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, USC School of Theatre Endowment Fund and Association of Corporate Counsel.

Originally hailing from the small town of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, Alan earned a Bachelor of Science with a dual major in Public Relations & Computer Science from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. He also holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Communication from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He currently lives in Los Angeles.

Point offers mentorship, leadership development and community service training to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) students.
