Eugene Patron

Communications & Marketing Director

Eugene Patron joins the Point Foundation after directing media relations and external communications for the Prospect Park Alliance, a public-private partnership that jointly manages Brooklyn’s landmark Prospect Park with the City of New York. Especially important to Eugene was promoting education programs at the Park, including those at the Prospect Park Audubon Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment, a high school adjacent to the Park the Alliance helped create.

The prelude to Eugene’s becoming a media professional started at age 16 when he ran away from New York City to Vienna, Austria with the dream of becoming a writer. He admits returning home and finishing high school probably did more to lay the foundation for his future success as a journalist, editor, and public relations professional, than did sitting in atmospheric European cafes. Eugene did continue to get good use out of his passport though, reporting as a freelance journalist from as far-afield as South Africa, China, Israel and Cuba for American, European, Asian and Australian newspapers and magazines.

How LGBT communities (both physical and virtual) are formed and sustained, is of particular interest to Eugene and is reflected in much of his writing he has done for publications including The Advocate, OUT, The Gay & Lesbian Review, and the gay-interest news column he wrote for the Miami Herald. His involvement with advocacy initiatives and community organizations includes local, state and federal LGBT rights campaigns, LGBT history projects, and HIV prevention work. Eugene has a Master of Science in Urban Affairs degree from the City University of New York’s Hunter College.
