Point's mission, what Point accomplishes, and Point’s scholarship funding information
Point Foundation, established in 2001, was initially funded by a grant from Bruce C. Lindstrom & Carl T. Strickland. Point Foundation is what it is today—the premier national LGBTQ non-profit organization designed to nurture the LGBTQ leaders of the next generation – because of the generous support of others. Point Foundation empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society.
By identifying and supporting these scholars, Point hopes to provide a greater level of acceptance and respect within future generations for all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression, or gender identity. We honor our scholars - their leadership, their acumen, their early involvement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer causes, and their pledge to make the world a fairer and better place for all.
Point Scholarships are awarded on a "last provider" basis. Point fills in the gaps and provides funds not provided by other scholarships, grants, loans, work/study programs, etc. It is the responsibility of those selected as Point Scholars to secure as much outside funding as possible. Point is not intended to be, and cannot be, the sole source of support because there is no guarantee that the financial support will be the same each year, nor will it be provided each year. The scholarship amounts funded by Point each year depends on other financial support that Point Scholars receive from individuals, other foundations or grants, as well as the financial health of Point.

Part I of the scholarship application is NOW OPEN.
Email notifications will be sent to scholarship applicants who qualify to access Part II of the scholarship application. 2014 Scholarship Application Part II
Part II will be made available from November 2nd until February 3 at 11:59 pm Pacific to qualified applicants who receive an invitation via email.
Each scholarship applicant who submits Part II will automatically receive a confirmation email.
If you receive notification to begin filling out Part II, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU COLLECT YOUR SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION NOW. If you are selected as a semifinalist you may have as little as one week to mail the supplemental information before the deadline. We highly recommend NOT waiting until the last few days to submit your application; those who submit earlier will be notified earlier and will therefore have more time to collect materials.
Semifinalist notifications will be ongoing and will be completed by the end of February. Applicants should check spam/junk email regularly so they don’t miss this important email notification regarding their status as a potential semifinalist.
Each scholarship applicant who is selected to be a semifinalist is notified by Point with an email by the end of February.
Point must receive your supplemental materials by March 3, 2014. Submissions submitted earlier are most appreciated. Late and/or incomplete submissions will not be accepted. All of your supplemental material needs to have your full name and email address displayed on each page. Semifinalists will not receive confirmation of any sort that their supplemental materials have arrived at the office.
Additional instructions regarding Semifinalist procedures can be found on the semifinalist tab once you begin your scholarship application.
By the end of March, Point notifies each finalist by email and/or phone and extends an invitation to attend an in-person interview with the organization's Board of Directors and executive management staff. This interview is mandatory if the finalist chooses to remain in contention for the scholarship award. No exceptions will be made.
Interviews are coordinated by Point and will take place between Thursday, April 24 and Saturday, April 26, 2014. The costs for transportation, lodging and meals are covered by Point for all finalists traveling within the U.S. All finalists must also attend the Point Finalist Recognition Dinner on Thursday, April 24. Interview times will be set at a later date.
